steve jobs on stealing ideas

Steve Jobs teaches us a few remarkable things in this short (40sec!) video:

1) “it comes down to trying to expose yourself to the best things that humans have done; and then try to bring those things in to what you’re doing”

2) “good artists copy, great artists steal” (a quote from Pablo Picasso)

3) Apple has always been shameless about stealing great ideas

4) people with different skills and backgrounds, but with a similar mindset, focusing on the same challenge, can create something extraordinary.

According to Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Jobs was a tweaker; in other words, Steve Jobs “never invented anything original”.

What Steve Jobs had, were “fresh eyes”.

“Recognizing that something has extraordinary potential is just as important as inventing something…” (Malcolm Gladwell)
